Prof. Dr. Ali Osman Gündoğan was born in Balıkesir in 1961 and has an important academic career in philosophy. He started his academic journey at Atatürk University, graduated from the Department of Philosophy in 1982 and worked as a philosophy teacher at the same university. Later, he was appointed as a research assistant and received his doctorate degree in 1991 with his thesis titled “Blondel’s Philosophy of Action and its Effects in Turkey”.
In 1995, Gündoğan, who obtained the title of associate professor, held important positions such as head of department and vice dean at Atatürk University. In 2000, he was appointed as an associate professor at Gazi University, and one year later he was appointed as a professor at Muğla University.
He held various administrative positions at Muğla University, including Director of the Institute of Social Sciences, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts and Vice Rector. In addition, he participated in many national and international conferences, congresses, panels and symposiums and made important contributions in the field of philosophy.
Gündoğan’s field of study is particularly focused on the problems of existentialist philosophy. Albert Camus made in-depth studies on topics such as the philosophy of action, literature and philosophy, and moral philosophy. These works have been published in various journals and joint books.
In addition, within the framework of the Erasmus program, he gave seminars in Paris on Intellectual Movements of the Late Ottoman Period and the Turkish Education System, and played an important role in projects supported by the European Union on intercultural dialogue and education. He is currently the Head of the Department of Philosophy at Muğla University.
